Investigation at the Brookdale Lodge
|
On April 21st 2007 a small group of the NPI team
(Doug, Shane & Lisa) took a trip to the beautiful Santa
Cruz, CA. mountain town of Brookdale, were we
attended The Northern California Paranormal
Conference. It was held at the world famous Brookdale
Lodge. The lodge was build in 1890 by Judge J.H.
Logan at the site of the Grover lumber mill. In the early
1920's the lodge took on a new look and persona. Dr
F.K. Camp built the beautiful and now world famous
dining room that features a natural running brook
through it. Over the years the Brookdale Lodge has
been host to a number of notable guest that includes
mobsters like Al Capone and other assorted gangsters,
movie stars including Mae West, Marilyn Monroe,
Tyrone Power, Hedy Lamarr and at least 1 or 2 U.S.
Presidents are said to have visited.
The Brookdale has been investigated many times and
is well know as being haunted by as many as 49
ghost/spirits some have said. One of the hauntings is
said to the spirit of little six year old Sarah Logan who
was the niece of the lodge owner. Sarah while playing
unattended in the Brook Room fell face first, into the
running brook, hitting her head and causing her to
become unconscious and drowning. Another watery
death accrued at the lodge in 1973 by a 13 year old girl
who drowned in the pool above the famous Mermaid
Room were a glass wall allows guest to look into the
pool from under the water. It's rumoured that in the 40's
and 50's the Brookdale Lodge entered it's most
intriguing period, being called home by shady
characters and gangsters. It's said that during that time
secret passageways and hidden rooms were built
through out the lodge and that murdered victims are
said to be buried under the floors and in the walls.
The conference was fun and we got a chance to meet a
lot of great people and make some new friends who
also share our passion for unearthing the unknown. The
investigations was more on the for fun side as trying to
do a serious hunt with 80 people running around is just
not possible. But never say never, we did come up with
some interesting stuff. Interesting enough to set up a
private investigation down the road.
Check out the links to the Brookdale Lodge below and
see what we came up with.
